Tucked away in the scenic countryside of Wisconsin, Big Rock Creek is a hidden gem that offers a one-of-a-kind escape from the hustle of everyday life. From glamping and side-by-side rides to unique events and cabins, this destination offers a unique blend of adventure and relaxation for all kinds of visitors. I first got involved with Big Rock Creek in June of 2024, when my friends and I spent a weekend there as part of an influencer experience—showcasing everything that makes this place so unique. From the historic barn to the rolling pastures, it felt like stepping into another world.
So when they asked me to return for Dutton Days in September to capture the event through photography, videography, and social media, I couldn’t say no.

A Rich Historical Legacy
Established in 1886, Big Rock Creek began as a trout hatchery and the home of the Big Rock Creek Trout Club. In the early 20th century, it became a retreat for railroad tycoons who transformed the property into a vast fishing and hunting estate. A centerpiece of the property is the historic barn constructed using 200-year-old timbers repurposed from a railroad trestle originally located in Massachusetts. This rich history adds a unique charm to the venue, making it more than just a picturesque location but a place where stories of the past come alive.
A True Western Experience
The Dutton Days Event was like stepping straight into a Yellowstone-style ranch party. The setting, centered around Big Rock Creek’s iconic barn, was filled with rustic charm and so much energy. Guests arrived decked out in western and Yellowstone themed attire, ready for a day of shopping, dancing, and wild entertainment.
Some of the most memorable highlights included horses and an up-close visit with a buffalo, a thrilling fire-blowing performance, lasso demonstrations, campfire cooking that brought the taste of the Wild West to life, energetic line dancing lessons, and a fun-filled “Beth & Rip” costume contest. Guests also enjoyed axe-throwing, and unique shopping opportunities, making it an event packed with entertainment for all ages.

Beyond the entertainment, guests could buy and customize their own cowboy hats, shop from a variety of boutiques and western wear, or even get their face painted—which was a big hit with families. As the sun set, the event wrapped up with live country music filling the barn and line dancers, creating the perfect end to a perfect day.
A Hidden Gem Close to Home
One of the biggest things I took away from this event was just how incredible it is to have something like this so close to home. For people in the Twin Cities, Duluth, and other neighboring areas, Big Rock Creek is an easy getaway that feels like it’s a world away. It’s the kind of place where you can disconnect, enjoy the outdoors, and experience something truly unique without having to hop on a plane or drive across the country.
Working Dutton Days was more than just a job for me—it was an experience. Capturing the joy, excitement, and energy of the event reminded me why I love what I do. Whether it’s through photos, videos, or social media, I love telling the stories of places that bring people together in such a special way.
If you’re looking for a memorable, fun-filled event, or even just a weekend escape, I highly recommend checking out Big Rock Creek. Events like Dutton Days bring the best of the west to the Midwest, and it’s something you won’t want to miss!
